Asheville Studio Classes

Hello. Welcome to my Workshop Pages. On this page you will find the information for my Studio Classes held at my studio in Asheville, NC.

Covid Update: (2-20-2021) Studio class are on hold right now until safety measures for both myself and students can be assured. Students will have to have both their Covid vaccinations and agree to wear their masks for the time of the workshop. Studio classes are held at my studio in West Asheville, NC.  It is easy to find, parking is off road, restaurants are within walking distance and several hotels are within easy access. Stairs are involved for dyeing and felting.

 
Classes are limited to 1- 2 (or 3 or 4) people for ease of working space and personal attention. Private classes are  available by request.  We start teaching at 10 am and continue to 5 pm or so with a short break for lunch – which you may bring or order out from the nearby WALK restaurant.

The daily fee is $175 /person plus a supply fee (all materials and handouts) depending on the class topic (usually around $20-25/day). All materials, handouts and tools are furnished.

Workshops are not scheduled ahead of time. Instead if you are interested in any workshops – email me with what you want to learn, and what dates are best for you.  I’ll get back to you and we’ll figure out when we’ll have our workshop! Easy!! chad@chadalicehagen.com

Workshop Topics Available at my Asheville Studio

 One or Two Day Class -Resist Dyeing Hand Felted Wool

This is my most popular workshop! Spend one or two whole days resist dyeing 6-12 book sized felt samples with incredible colors and patterns.  Dye Master Chad will prepare and maintain nine different dyebaths each day. We will be using Merino Needle Punch batts which we will felt first thing in class.  The whole giant collection of resist tools will be at your fingers.  No experience necessary. Standing and stairs involved.

Two Day Class Ideas. The following two day classes are suggestions. You might want to just take a one day class and thats just fine. Decide on which topic and write me and we’ll work things out.

Resist Dyeing on Hand Felted Wool & The NEW Felt and Leather Journal

Spend the first day learning to felt and resist dye six book sized felts and then one the next day choose one felt to turn into a hard cover, 192 page journal with beautiful triple buttonhole stitching around the edges.

The Perfect Notebook & My Favorite Sketchbook

This exciting class will introduce you to two wonderful bookbinding techniques – and they both will incorporate textiles as the covers! We will learn to make tea stained pages for a Perfect Bound Notebook and create a hard cover, flat opening Favorite Sketchbook;

You’ll learn all the steps of beginning book making from folding and tearing pages to transforming fabric into book covers to stitching and finishing. All supplies furnished. All levels                                        

NOTE: If you want to bring your own quilt weight fabric, please do.  A fat quarter will be more than enough. I provide boxes of fabrics from which you may chose.

The Airey Fairy & Resist Shaped Bark Scarves

Fabulous for both the harshest winds of winter or during a major fashion show – The Airey Fairy scarf will solve all your winter woes and banish those dreary grey days. We will use your choice of my hand dyed fine merino roving and learn to lay out and hand felt this lovely lattice scarf.

Bark Scarf

The Shape Resist Bark Scarf is Art for your neck! Learn to felt a full size fine merino scarf starting with a needle punch batt and then an ancient Japanese resist stitching method (but with a modern twist) to create bark-like texture and patterns. You will learn to do two different resists with two different dyepots creating wonderful gradations and color mixtures.
